Terms of Service

By creating an account on AlignED ("the Service"), operated by Rockland BOCES ("we," "us," or "our"), you agree to the following terms. If you do not agree, do not create an account or use the Service.
1. Eligibility
The Service is intended for educators affiliated with schools and educational organizations. Registration requires a valid school or educational institution email address.
2. Privacy and Data Use
- We will not sell, rent, or distribute your personal information to third parties.
- We collect only the information necessary to operate the Service (name, email, and the resources you contribute).
- Your email address is used solely for account authentication, service notifications, and communication related to the Service.
3. Content You Contribute
By submitting resources, lesson plans, activities, ratings, or any other content to the Service ("User Content"), you agree to the following:
- License Grant: You grant Rockland BOCES a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, distribute, and display your User Content in connection with the Service and related educational purposes. Other educators may use, adapt, and build upon your contributions without compensation to you.
- No Royalties or Compensation: You understand that Rockland BOCES reserves the right to charge fees for access to or use of the Service (including to cover operational costs such as hosting and AI processing), and that no royalties, fees, or other compensation will be owed to you for your User Content.
- Your Representations: You represent that you have the right to contribute any content you submit, and that your contributions do not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party.
4. Public Nature of Contributions
All resources and information you contribute to the Service should be considered public. Other users of the Service can view, use, and build upon your contributions. Do not submit anything you wish to keep private or confidential.
5. No Personally Identifiable Information (PII)
Do not enter personally identifiable information into the Service. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Student names, ID numbers, grades, or other student records
- Your own Social Security number, home address, phone number, or other sensitive personal data
- Any information protected under FERPA, COPPA, or other privacy regulations
The Service is designed for sharing educational resources and professional knowledge, not personal data. You are solely responsible for ensuring that your contributions do not contain PII.
6. Content Moderation
Rockland BOCES reserves the right to review, edit, remove, or restrict access to any User Content at any time, for any reason, without notice. This includes content that is inaccurate, inappropriate, off-topic, or otherwise inconsistent with the educational mission of the Service.
7. Account Responsibilities
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
- You agree not to share your account with others or use another person's account.
- You agree to use the Service in good faith for its intended educational purpose.
8. Service Availability
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Rockland BOCES makes no guarantees regarding availability, accuracy, or fitness for a particular purpose. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Rockland BOCES shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of or related to your use of the Service.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Rockland County, New York.
